Be a part of moving Greenland forward

Greenland is a young and a resourceful nation in the modern world. With a population of just 56,000 that commonly understands and speaks three languages (Greenlandic, English, Danish) Greenland is capable of being one of the fastest and effecient nations to integrate and iterate initiatives.

A reflection of the modern world

Greenland is one of the worlds most inaccessible nations. It is not only inaccessible for the outside world, but also domestically, as each town is isolated from the other with no connecting roads/land infrastructure.

This has resulted in Greenland investing heavily in digital infrastructure to arguably become the worlds most digitally advanced nation.

97% of the population have one or more desktop/laptop, tablets or smartphones and 92% of the population have an access to the Internet. 58% of the population accesses the Internet from their smartphone every single day and 65% of the population prefers communicating electronically with the public.

The road to independence

Greenland was colonized by Denmark in 1721, got its Home Rule in 1979, then its Self Rule in 2009. The next natural and historical step is to become an independent country.

Today, Greenland is acquiring an increasingly international outlook in terms of politics and business towards its adventure of becoming a fully selfsubstained economy and nation.

The GDP is approx. $2.5 billions US. The yearly block grant from Denmark is $560 million US, which covers the half of the governments yearly fiscal budget. The road to independence starts with boosting the national economy in varies sectors to counteract the size of the block grant.

How we connect Greenland with the digital technology industry

We in the association strongly believe that digital technologies will have a necessary foundation for developing Greenlands economy in various sectors.

The Government of Greenland’s Digitization Strategy

The Government has a new digitization strategy that goes from 2018 to the end of 2021. The role of GDTA for the strategy would be to advice the parlament and the government on their further policy making to support the development of the industry.

The six digitization strategy themes:
Theme 1: The Digital Citizen
Theme 2: Security and Privacy
Theme 3: The Digital Skillsets
Theme 4: Digital Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Business
Theme 5: Joint Public Digital Architecture
Theme 6: A Further Digitized Health Service
